Crabapple Tree Stowe, VT 6" x 6" Oil on Panel I had one hour to paint and looking out from the deck looking at the view it was extremely overcast and I really wasn't feeling inspired. Down below in the field was an apple tree that was a lighter green against the dark green backdrop of the distant trees. The contrast piqued my interest and with the grasses turning to oranges and rusts along with some wildflowers, it seemed like a fun subject.
Whiteface Mountain Green Mountains Stowe, VT 6" x 6" I just eeked Day 17 in. Today was a travel day to VT. These days are always the longest. I had the best intentions of getting early to paint before I left, but that didn't happen. I had painted two paintings one day so thought today would be the day that I broke that one out, but after dinner I went out onto the deck and did a new painting for the day. The light was changing so quickly. It ended up being a gorgeous sunset but when I began there was blue skies and cirrus clouds and sunlight on the treetops. The sun quickly went behind some clouds and then behind the mountains so the light in my painting changed a few times. The trees are no longer the deep greens that they were my last visit the transition is just beginning and there is a hint of brown and olive green in some of the trees now. I may miss peak here this year but I do hope to do several different paintings from this spot documenting the turning of the leaves. I recently found this Pochade box that was my father's. I have been painting 6x6's and carrying my backpack and french easel, waybtoo much stuff for the small paintings. I really wanted to take advantage of painting the small size by trying to carry as little as possible. I'm trying to get used to the new set up but it is so much quicker to get going with this set up. I am used to the disposable paper pallets so the wooden palette is taking a little bit of getting used to. What I like the most is using command strips to adhere my panel to a larger panel. This way it is easy to paint all of the surface to the edges and it is easy to carry afterwards without getting finger prints on the final painting.
Richmond Island Two Lights State Park Cape Elizabeth, ME 6" x 6" I'm noticing it's a bit of a theme, Two Lights State Park, Apple Orchard..... I was actually supposed to head to VT today but had an extra day because of some car issues I have been having. It was such a warm beautiful day and I wanted one last visit to the ocean, and this is my spot of choice these days. I have a lot of people in my life who are going through some difficult times and I have been feeling a little out of sorts. While I was painting this painting a dear friend called me who I hadn't talked to in months so I was a little distracted as I was finishing this up. Then I met a really nice couple who gave my dog Maury some loving. As I was leaving someone knocked on my window and it was the man who I had met. He wanted to thank me for the time we shared and said he often finds four leaf clovers and he wanted tp give me one that he had just found. It made my day. It was such a thoughtful gesture. There are so many people that I want to share my good luck charm with. It is going to stay in my car and get me to VT safe and sound. I love moments like this.
Surf from Florence Two Lights State Park Cape Elizabeth, ME 6" x 6" Oil on panel Zipped down to Two Lights to see what the surf was like tonight. It was foggy along the coast and as the sun was setting there there was a beautiful soft warm light. With the surf from Florence it was beautiful.
