Busy Surf Two Lights State Park Cape Elizabeth, ME 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Done! 30 Paintings in 30 days all from life, no photos involved! It's a bit anticlimactic, but really glad that I did it. I may not have challenged myself with a wide variety of subject matter, but I experimented with some techniques, and painted some still lives in addition to the landscapes. It was nice to end it at Two Lights. It was another gorgeous day and my soul just loves that spot. Back to VT tomorrow so it was perfect timing.

Scarborough Marsh scarborough, ME 6" x 6" Oil on Panel One day to go, hard to believe. I was going for something softer and more simple today. I love the changing colors of the grasses. It is such a beautiful day outside today. It was also high tide and there were no bugs. A win win all around!
Dahlias and other things 6 x 6" Oil on Panel Another rainy day and I have been gravitating towards flowers when I'm not painting outside. Yes my Dahlias look like my zinnias but without getting too detailed, they are just beautiful balls of color with some texture. Two days to go!
Apples Cumberland, ME 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Back to the orchard. This one isn't quite done but got a good start. I could spend weeks in this orchard. A few hours will have to suffice. I haven't even eaten an apple yet!
Rocks & Surf Fort Williams Cape Elizabeth, ME 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Spectacular day at the ocean today. It was blustery, warm, foggy/hazy, the autumn colors are emerging and it was high tide. I feel lucky being able to travel back and forth from the mountains of VT to the Maine coast.
Rocks and Surf Two Lights State Park Cape Elizabeth, ME 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Ok this is my free pass day. It was a travel day from VT to Maine, Pouring rain all day, and an empty house as far as still life material goes. I had painted two paintings early in the month. This one ended up face first in the dirt when I was finished but I did manage to brush most of the dirt off once it dried. I'm feeling a bit like a cheater but it was painted this month and I always need downtime when I get home from care taking my mom. I like this painting. I don't usually focus on the details and there was quite a bit of energy in the water that day which I feel I captured.
Red Barn Stowe, VT 6" x 6" Oil on Panel This was a challenge all around. I ended up with a 45 minute window to paint something . This barn was easy access, good parking, good for Maury .... I felt pressured because I was out of the house and wanted to find a great subject matter, but there are always so many things to take into account. All sides of this barn here are in shade there were very little areas of light and I'm not sure if I made that apparent. I was covered in paint by the time I left because I kept putting my arm in my palette not realizing it and yes it was a red. I packed it up and then spent some time this afternoon trying to salvage it. I might work on it a bit more at some point but day 24 is accomplished!
Last of the Zinnias Stowe, VT 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Mom and I and her German Shepard Blitz took a ride to the local Mennonite Farmstand yesterday afternoon in hopes of finding some Zinnias. We had gone a few days before and they only had sunflowers but I spotted some Zinnias in the garden so I was hoping they may have cut some for the weekend. I got the last stems and they were starting to look a little weathered. Todays painting seemed a little more challenging then the first two Zinnia paintings I did. I was having a hard time moving the paint with the palette knife and I didn't quite capture the shadow areas of some of the flowers but after some dreary days it was fun to play with some color. The highlight of the trip to the farmstand!
Valley Sun Stowe, VT 6" x 6" Oil on Panel Woke up to clouds again. There was still quite a stiff wind and rain over the mountain. The clouds began to break and the sun was shining in the valley. There was actually a rainbow to the right of this frame but I haven't managed a successful rainbow to date and decided not to give it a try this morning.
Candle 6" x 6" Oil on Panel It was a torrent of rain outside today, finally. Decided to do something completely different. My mother has had this candleholder for as long as I can remember. I spotted it in her bedroom and thought that would be a challenge to paint. I just placed it on a hutch with some window light illuminating it. The candle holder itself has some intricate details but I just stuck with general shape, values and color and I got a likeness (with a bit of imagination). I always forget how much fun painting still lives are.
