Vermont

A few weeks ago I moved to Stowe, VT to help my elderly mother who is now suffering from Dementia. It's been an abrupt transition from working endlessly to get ready for my show to moving at a much slower pace. The days are spent cooking meals, going for walks, doing errands... A lot of repetition in activities and conversation. It's a horrible disease and one I honestly never thought my very sharp intelligent mother would be dealing with. I have been unsure how much painting and photography I will be able to accomplish during this transition. I started doing some smaller 6" x 6" pieces. A size I have never really tackled before. It's turned out to be a really rewarding exercise. I take my mom for drives, I snap some photos with my phone and then I work from those photos to do a small study. It's great because she is part of the experience and they don't take too long. I am then able to share the finished product with her, sometimes the same day that we shot the photos. She is always so enthusiastic with the finished product ( she has always been one of my biggest supporters! ). Here are some paintings from the first couple of weeks. And yes the coastal image was not from Vermont, It was one I had on my phone and always had the desire to paint.
